History of Earth Day

The modern environmental movement began in the 1960s, as people became increasingly concerned about the negative impact of human activities on the environment. In 1962, Rachel Carson published her groundbreaking book “Silent Spring,” which exposed the harmful effects of pesticides on wildlife and humans. This book helped to spark a movement that led to the creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of several environmental laws, including the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Endangered Species Act.

Senator Gaylord Nelson, a Democrat from Wisconsin, inspired by the anti-war movement of the time to create a similar movement focused on the environment. He proposed the idea of a national “teach-in” on the environment, and the first Earth Day was held on April 22, 1970. An estimated 20 million Americans participated in events across the country, calling for action to address environmental issues such as air and water pollution, deforestation, and wildlife conservation.

The Reason We Celebrate Earth Day

The reasons for celebrating Earth Day are numerous. The earth is our home, and we have a responsibility to protect it for future generations. Environmental degradation can have serious consequences for human health, wildlife, and ecosystems. Climate change, caused by the release of greenhouse gases from human activities, is already having significant impacts on the planet, including rising temperatures, more frequent and severe natural disasters, and the loss of biodiversity.

By celebrating Earth Day, we can raise awareness about these issues and encourage people to take action to reduce their impact on the environment. This can include things like reducing energy consumption, conserving water, reducing waste, and supporting policies and regulations that protect the environment.

Celebrate Earth Day with Taman Safari Bali

Taman Safari Bali, one of the most popular attractions in Bali, is showing its concern for Earth Day by promoting sustainable and eco-friendly practices within its premises. The park, which is home to over 400 animals from different parts of the world, is taking steps to reduce its carbon footprint and contribute to the preservation of the environment.

One of the major initiatives taken by the park is the implementation of a waste management system that prioritizes recycling and composting. The park has set up recycling bins throughout its premises, encouraging visitors to dispose of their waste responsibly. Additionally, organic waste generated within the park is composted, which is then used as fertilizer for the park’s plants.
