A Brief History of Ranthambore

The Ranthambore Fort lies near the city of Sawai Madhopur in Sawai Madhopur district of Rajasthan, India. These noteworthy fort was built by the Chauhan rulers in the 10th century. In the meantime, the original name was “Ranath Bhawar Garh” which means “place of the Rajput warriors”.

The fort is surrounded by a large stone wall reinforced by towers and bastions. It consist of temples, tanks, massive gates and huge walls. Inside the fort are three red Karauli stone temples stanch to Ganesh, Shiva and Ramlalaji. With marvelous architectures, the fort includes many attractions such include Toran Dwar, Mahadeo Chhatri and Sametonki Haveli within its premises.

Now, these original fort is popular as a tourist attraction in India, as it is lies within the National Park! Established in 1955, the name “Ranthambore National Park” takes after the historic fort which lies within the park. With an area 1,334 km2, this park hosts deciduous forests and wildlife such as wide variety of trees, plants, birds, animals and reptiles. Moreover, this sanctuary park also known for its large tiger population. Particularly, according to the 2014 census of tigers, there were 62 tigers live in the sanctuary.
