Lemon fish (Neolamprologus leleupi) is a type of freshwater ornamental fish originating from Lake Malawi, Africa. This fish has a very striking color characteristic like a lemon.

Because of that, lemon fish is also called by the name electric yellow cichild or yellow prince. This adorable fish is a species of the genus Cichlid, which is a group of the most colorful freshwater fish in the world.

Habitat of The Lemon Fish

In its natural habitat, Lake Malawi, this fish lives in water with a high mineral content. This lake is also famous for its water clarity and stable pH. Therefore, maintaining it must pay close attention to the quality of the water.

The best water for keeping fish has a pH between 7.5-9.2 with a water temperature of around 25-27 degrees Celsius. Like its native environment in Lake Malawi, this fish also likes rocky or sandy areas as a place to live. These conditions can be applied in the aquarium to maintain it so that it grows well.

Characteristic

Lemon fish has a characteristic of a bright yellow color all over its body like the color of a lemon skin. This fish also has an attractive character, is aggressive, mischievous and does not hesitate to greet its owner asking for food.

They have a flat and elongated shape, the head slightly elongates upwards, the eyes are large and round, the mouth shape is quite wide.The bright yellow color predominates, but there is a bit of black on the upper side of the lemon fish’s fins.

Diet and Behaviors

This fish is known to be mischievous and does not hesitate to greet its owner asking for food. The best food for this type of carnivorous fish such as spirulina, shrimp, fish meat, krill and shellfish.

Keep in mind, this fish should not be given food in the form of red worms because it can cause intestinal disorders. If cared for and fed properly, fish can survive up to 9 years of age!
