This animal is native to the dense forests of Southeast Asia, from the Assam district of India to Indochina. It is also find in Malay Peninsula including many of the small islands of Indonesia. Like other palm civets, it is solitary, nocturnal, and arboreal. Living in the height of the trees and the dark of the night in a dense forest is a favorite place for these animals.

Characteristic

These mammals can grow to a length of 50-60 cm. The color of its fur is predominantly gray-brown, making it easy to camouflage in the dark. The Root Weasel’s feet have a sharp claws.
On the back of the Weasel Root there is a pale black stripe pattern. Extends from head to tail. The length of the tail exceeds the length of the body. The root weasel’s tail serves as a balancer for his body when he is at a height.

The diet is varied and omnivorous, and usually consists of insects, small mammals, nesting, birds, fruits, frogs, and lizards.  During the day they can be visible lounging on tree branches in the canopy of trees. It is not know whether or not these animals are social. During several night light surveys that several of these mammals looking to feeding on the same large-fruited fig tree despite their solitary nature.

Reproduction

Small-toothed palm civets are seasonal breeders, with some having two litters a year of two to three young. They have a gestation period of 45 days. In the wild, they can have life span about 12 years.
