Get To Know Mandrill

Often called as Monyet Dukun by locals, Mandrill is a unique animal that can be differentiate easily. Have a red stripe on the nose with a blue bump on the side, make them look like they are wearing a make up!

This monkey have a lifespan up to 31 years and can live longer in conservation such as Bali Safari Park.

Belong to omnivorous animals, they like to eat fruit, leaves and invertebrate animals such as spiders, snails and scorpions. On the day they mostly spent their times on the trees and will sleep in different place at night.

Can grow up to 81cm with weight up to 37 kg, make them being the largest monkey on the planet. Not only that, they also have fangs about 6.7 cm and strong teeth that serves as self-defense. Sometimes, they expose their teeth by bending their lips back as a way of greeting!

Do you know that the mandrill is a very noisy animal? Communicate by making high-pitched voices and grunts, no wonder their voice can be heard loudly.

IUCN Status

Have the vulnerable status according to the IUCN Red List, Mandrill are threatened with extinction. It is due to the destruction of their natural habitat, the presence of predators and poaching by humans.
