Art-Cave, found on the wall or ceilings of caves. The term usually implies prehistoric origin, but cave paintings also can be of cecent, prodration: Aletaria, sharonues northern Australia, the oldest paintings certainly predate 28,000 years ago, while the most recent ones were made less than a century ago.

Overview

The first painted cave acknowledged as being Paleolithic, meaning from the Stone Age, was Altamira in Spain. The Most Common Painting in Caves

Most art cave consists of paintings made with either red or black pigment. The reds were made with iron oxides (hematite), whereas manganese dioxide and charcoal were used for the blacks.

The most common subjects in cave paintings are large wild animals, such as bison, horses, aurochs, and deer.  Tracings of human hands as well as abstract patterns, called finger flutings. The species found most often were suitable for hunting by humans. The painters of Lascaux have mainly left reindeer bones, but this species does not appear at all in the cave paintings. Equine species are the most common.

Art-cave is generally consider as a symbolic or religious function, sometimes both. The exact meanings of the images remain unknown. Some experts think they may have been create within the framework of shamanic beliefs and practices. One such practice involved going into a deep cave for a ceremony during which a shaman would enter a trance state and send his or her soul into the other world to make contact with the spirits and try to obtain their benevolence.
