As a leading conservation institution in Bali, Bali Safari Park is home to many endemic species from Indonesia. Therefore, most of them currently threatened with extinction and need our attention.

Bekantan

This monkey have identical long nose and endemic to the island of Borneo, can you guess which animal is it? Known as Bekantan, they are the largest monkey species in Asia which have reddish-brown hair color.

In addition, Bekantan (Nasalis larvatus) usually live in several habitats of mangroves, wetlands or swampy areas and coastal rainforests. According to IUCN Red List, this proboscis monkey currently having endangered status due to habitat loss.

Binturong

The Binturong (Artictis binturong) is the next endemic species in dense tropical forest on Java, Indonesia. Also known as a bearcat because resembles them, infact they are nor a bear or a cat. They are actually a unique animal in its own right.

It is uncommon in most of its range, and having Vulnerable status on the IUCN Red List. It is because of declining population trend that is estimate at more than 30% since the mid 1980s.

Anoa

Last but not least animal we discussed this time is Anoa (Bubalus depressicornis). Known as dwarf buffalo, Anoa is the smallest wild cattle endemic to the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia.

They classify as Endangered by IUCN Red List and the populations continue to decrease. Hunting and not having restrictions or proper management strategies and logging is the main results they threatened with extinction. As a results, it is predicted that there are only less than 5,000 individuals left in the wild.
