This rodent popular as a pet, their docile nature and friendly responsiveness to handling and feeding. That cuddly pet known as The Guinea Pig!

The Guinea Pig known with their weigh approximately 0,9 – 1,2 kg, with a life span around 4-8 years. The male and female do not have specifics appearance apart from their general size. The sizes make them famous as a large rodent!

As a social animals that inhabits the mountains, they live in small groups or “herds”. It consist of several females (sows), a male (boar), and their young (pups). The herds will tend to move together, eating grass or other vegetation but do not store food.

Diet & Behaviours

This cute rodent natural diet is grass, but as a pet they like to eat vegetables and fruits. Their molars teeth are particularly match for grinding plant matter.

On the first paragraph, we already mention one of their behavior which is remember the complex paths for months. Another facts you should know is their strongest problem-solving strategy is motion. While guinea pigs can jump small obstacles, they cannot jump very high. Most of them are poor climbers, and are not particularly agile. They startle easily, and when they sense danger either freeze in place for long periods, or run for cover with rapid, darting motions.

However, they have poor eyesight in terms of distance and color. But, they have a wider angle of vision (about 340°) and see in partial color (dichromacy). More of that, they have well senses of hearing, smell, and touch!

Reproduction

The gestation period for The Guinea Pig is from 52 – 72 days, and can have 2 – 4 babies in one birth. Although the mother only has two nipples, but she can readily raise all her 2 to 4 pups!
